Living your soul purpose means taking action to stand in your purpose. Before I left Microsoft, I had already put a downpayment on the building in Alabama where I was going to open a day spa. It was my intention to start my own business and stay in my job. I didn’t have all the answers. I wasn’t sure how I’d manage to do both, but I did know that creating a spa for the community was an opportunity to answer my calling, so I went with it.
About a month later, I was in Georgia with my family at the time of year when funds are raised to send missionaries on worldwide projects. I gave money to support the cause and effectively gave everything up to God. I left it to Him to let me know if I was doing what was right for me. When I got home that evening, I opened my mail to find confirmation of everything I needed to go ahead with the spa. The following morning, my boss met with me at work, and my relationship with Microsoft was severed.
My point is that some relationships can be viewed as a considerable loss at first. I hadn't planned to leave my job, but it worked out that way. When you take steps to live your soul purpose, only the things you need to help you fulfill that purpose will remain in your life. The people or things that fall by the wayside were not meant for you.

Finding your own source of inspiration makes you unstoppable. Your gift may seem “extreme” to others, and it may make you stand out from the crowd in a way that makes other people feel uncomfortable around you, but if you are inspired from within, outside opinions have no influence. Self-acceptance is a level of bravery, and when you find inspiration, you find your purpose. Nothing will stand in your way.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, it’s time to reconnect with your soul purpose. Be inspired. Reconnect with your purpose by reconnecting with your source of inspiration. Spend time in an environment that inspires you, and spend time with people who energize and inspire you. Reconnect with the real you and with your soul purpose, then take a moment to realize that your soul purpose is bigger than you. Whatever your purpose, you don’t have to do it all. By living your purpose, you are fulfilling your part, and it’s important to realize that beyond that point you have no control, and that’s okay.

To live in your soul purpose, you must stand in it, not sit. Here are the key points to help you stand up:
- reconnect with your true self and your unique gifts.
- stay in touch with your soul purpose.
- accept your soul purpose as your destiny.
- ask how you can best serve in your purpose.
- have faith and know that everything you need is already yours or will come your way.
- let unsupportive elements of your life go, they are holding you back.
- take purposeful action, there is nothing to fear when you’re living in your soul purpose.

Many of my clients over the years have found themselves sitting in their purpose, aware of their soul purpose, yet unwilling or afraid to accept it. In one particular case, my client had recognized her purpose, and she knew how she could best serve that purpose. But knowing had not instantly led to doing, as it meant taking a giant leap away from her comfort zone. Instead she continued to work hard at other things, things she felt more comfortable with, but her efforts were not bringing her the outcomes she was striving to achieve. The proverbial door kept slamming in her face because she was not living to her already-recognized soul purpose.
When you stand in your purpose, you recognize that you have nothing to fear because your soul purpose is what you are destined to do. To stand in your purpose, you must not only recognize what your purpose and gifts are, you must accept them as yours and understand their value. Your purpose is your destiny, and your gifts were given to you so that you could fulfill your purpose. When you stand in your purpose, you have an unshakable faith and belief that everything you need will come to you.

(An excerpt from Sole To Soul: How to Identify Your Soul Purpose and Monetize It. Publish date April 2011.) There’s an unquestionable connection between your environment and your source of inspiration. When you find the right environment for you, you feed your soul and knowing what feeds your soul is a big part of self acceptance. Finding an environment that inspires you will help you to find your purpose.
Identifying the environmental elements that are most inspirational for you makes it possible to bring those elements into your everyday world. For example, if you live in a land-locked area but you discover you feel naturally drawn to water, consider installing a small indoor waterfall in your home or playing music recordings that bring the sounds of water and nature into your home.
